Newsroom About the Project Currently St.Petersburg experiences a number of problems connected with development of the urban public transport, i.e., - congestion of street network; - unsatisfactory condition of the rolling stock and transport infrastructure; - poor quality of transport service; - negative effect of the transport system on the ecological situation in the city. Construction project of Nadzemny Express (Nadex) system means advanced scheme of organizing transportation applying light-rail transport (LRT) technology which is widely used in the world, including countries with northern type of climate. The major LRT advantages are high operational reliability, efficiency and environmental sustainability; modern design, and rolling stock comfort. Applying these technologies will allow improving transportation availability and quality of public services which is one of the objectives of the transport infrastructure development of the City of St.Petersburg. The rapid transit mode will perform as a necessary addition to the metro network which connects suburbs with the downtown and is currently overloaded due to lack of good transit link between eastern and western parts of the city. Implementation of the project will provide for creating new work places, decrease deleterious effect of motor transport on the people’s health and environment, as well as will contribute to preserving the historical and architectural monuments of the universal importance..
